The day has finished. We have spent today thinking of the following question:
Am I seeing myself clearly?
No, usually not. I try to as often as possible, but events get in the way to cloud our judgment. Think of how much our emotions and biases cloud how we see ourselves. You get a promotion at work over your colleagues? Do you feel slightly inflated, like you’re better or smarter than them? How about a deal doesn’t execute the way you wanted. You knew you could get the deal done, but for whatever reason, it didn’t go through. Does this make you question yourself and your abilities? When we are caught in a moment and our emotions are out of order, we’re higher or lower than normal, we cannot clearly see ourselves. One way to avoid this is to have an anchor, someone or something that allows you to come back to your center and truly see yourself. Once you have your anchor in place, and you can see yourself clearly, you will be able to conquer the world much easier as you will no longer be tethered to the rollercoaster of your emotions. You know who you are and what you can achieve. The deal did not go through? That’s okay, you can get the next one. You got promoted? Great, now move on and continue to do your job. Enjoy your life and the events in it, but don’t forget to come back to who you are. Always stay grounded.
How have we grown from this? Did we execute any differently today because of this? Do you feel that you have new tools to accomplish tomorrow?
