NIGHTLY REFLECTIONS 6/16/18

The day has finished. We have spent today thinking of the following question:

If not now, then when?

If you wish to accomplish something, why have you not already done it? Have you set an obstacle in your way? Have you listened to conventional wisdom stating you must go through trials of X or tribulations of Y in order to get what you want?

The famous line of “never put off until tomorrow what you can do today” was created for a reason after all.

If not now, today, then when?

In all the actions you take, the projects you have and the things that need to be accomplished, why are they not done? Are you waiting for something to happen? Something to fall into your lap? Or are you strategically prioritizing things that need to be done, while putting off less important tasks? This is an important question to ask yourself. Are you putting off work today because there are bigger priorities or are you using this as an excuse to not do a task or project? One is laziness, the other prioritization. One achieves success, the other destroys it.

Be sure that as you’re going through your day, you ask yourself, is this being put off just because I don’t want to do it? Or is it because, from a strategic standpoint, it is more important to do other tasks at hand? Be true to yourself when answering. Once you have the answer to the task at hand, look at the big picture of what you’re trying to achieve. Why has the goal not been completed or achieved? By breaking down a goal into more sizable chunks, you will be able to accomplish parts of your goal faster. Regardless of how you go about breaking your goal into smaller, bite-sized chunks, ask yourself “Am I putting this off out of laziness or out of necessity?”

How have we grown from this? Did we execute any differently today because of this? Do you feel that you have new tools to accomplish tomorrow?
