The philosophy of Stoicism is steeped in actionable advice that we can apply to nearly all aspects of our lives. There are several that have been influential on me and my development over the years.
Today’s favorite quote comes from Seneca the Younger, from letter 22 from Letters from a Stoic.
Men do not care how nobly they live, but only how long, although it is within the reach of every man to live nobly, but within no man’s power to live long.Seneca. Letters from a Stoic. Letter 22: On the Futility of Half-Measures
WHY THIS QUOTE MATTERS TO ME
This quote continuously centers my thoughts on life. Often, I find myself consumed with work and life, and by doing so, am taken away from the present moment.
This quote reminds us that time is limited and that we do not need to live “richly” in order to live a good life. Our time on this earth is undefined, but regardless, is limited. Learning to make the most of your time and impacting those around you is key.
