The philosophy of Stoicism is steeped in actionable advice that we can apply to nearly all aspects of our lives. There are several that have been influential on me and my development over the years.
Today’s favorite quote comes from Marcus Aurelius from book X of his Meditations.
Put an end once for all to this discussion of what a good man should be, and be one.Marcus Aurelius. Meditations. X.16
WHY THIS QUOTE MATTERS TO ME
This is one of those quotes that hits you right in the gut. Too often we find ourselves wrapped up in arguing with people about what it means to do the right thing, or what the right thing is. Marcus’s wisdom gets right to the point. Stop arguing about these trivial things, show them through your actions.
It is a great reminder to me about not getting stuck in the minutia of things and to just get right to work. We can argue all day and night about what being a good man is. But at the end of the day, if you want to have a convincing argument about what a good man, or person should be, show it through your actions.
